McKellar Tree Planting Program 2021/2022 Store
The McKellar Environmental Committee and the Manitouwabing Lake Community Association, (MLCA), would like to thank one and all for the success of our second McKellar Tree Planting Program. Over 2,000 Native trees and bushes were planted by over 100 different individuals. Included were White Pine, Balsam, Hemlock, Silver Birch, Mountain Ash, Silver Maple and Nanny Berries.
Seedlings were offered to all township ratepayers at bulk prices, with no minimum orders required. The program ran smoothly, with relatively few glitches, and anyone having to wait for resolution proved to be very gracious and patient.
For the coming year, we are extremely fortunate to have Chris Clayton on board, our expert advisor and landscape architect. Chris and his wife took it upon themselves to walk all the roads of our Township that lead to the water. They have definitely put some roots down in the area. Chris has created a Re-wild Guide to assist you in choosing plants that are appropriate for our area. The Guide also provides choices that are useful for a variety of property types. Pictures of the plants can be seen in our Store Catalog.
To avoid short orders and substitutions by the nursery, we will be launching year three in the fall so that we are further up the ladder when it comes to the nursery choosing our stock. Be on the watch for order deadlines in late December instead of the spring.
See you in the Spring!
