the Data Values Mean
We test for Escherichia Coli (E-Coli) CFU/100ML. The data values
produced from the numerous sampling points around Manitouwabing Lake
will serve to indicate the safety of water for drinking.
Although efforts are made to secure proper testing samples and results,
we recommend that this information is presented for general reference
only. The Manitouwabing Lake Community Association and any
individuals associated with or acting on behalf of it cannot be held

From time to time, the
water level in Manitouwabing Lake becomes a matter of concern to users
of the lake. Too low: rocks, plus access to shallow areas of the lake,
are a concern. Too high: docks, boat houses and low lying land can be

Stewardship 2003
Your Association is
continuing to address Lake Stewardship, as an important issue. Retaining
and even improve the recreational/swimming quality of our lake is
beneficial to our enjoyment and retaining the value of our investment.
The state of health of a lake can be measured by testing the clarity of
the lake using Secchi Disc readings, testing the Phosphorus levels and
by obtaining samples of the water for bacterial contamination. Our

Giardia Information
Parasites live in, and on people, animals
and plants. There are many different kinds of parasites. Some are large
enough to be seen without a microscope like a dog or cat flea. Some are
so tiny they can only be seen through a microscope. An example of this
is giardia (pronounced
gee-are-dee-ya) a parasite that needs to live in animals and people.
When giardia lives in a person or animal it is found in the intestines
where it could cause illness. Signs of giardia illness are diarrhea
(often watery), stomach cramps, nausea, gas, loss of appetite, weight

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Acting Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Kathleen McGinty reminds Pennsylvanians with private drinking water wells that spring is a good time to make sure wells are in proper working order as well as to have well water tested.
"Now that the winter snows have melted, it is a good time to check in and around wells to make sure everything is OK," Acting Secretary McGinty said. "It is also a good idea to have well water tested once a year, and it is easy to make testing your water a spring-cleaning routine."...
