Landscaping Waterfront Property with Native Plants
Saturday, June 8, 2013 - Saturday, June 8, 2013

The McKellar Pioneer College is hosting a presentation by the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve entitled “Landscaping Waterfront Property with Native Plants,” an adapted State of the Bay Workshop, at the McKellar Community Centre Council Chambers between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, June 8th, 2013.

Summer is the time to be on the water. However, maintaining a waterfront property raises many concerns about what impact we may be having on our lakes and rivers. Join GBBR State of the Bay Program Coordinator David Bywater and Master Gardener and Native Plant Specialist Anne Bossart as they teach about the ways that landscaping and gardening can affect nearby water bodies.

David and Anne will run participants step by step through a self-assessment of their current waterfront impact. The leaders will also provide alternatives to traditional waterfront landscaping. The course will grant participants with a new knowledge and appreciation of native plants that can both maintain environmental integrity and aesthetic appeal. Make sure your waterfront retreat is both friendly to the environment and still lovely for you. State of the Bay workshops educate on ways of protecting eco-system health in the Eastern Georgian Bay watershed.

Funding for State of the Bay workshops provided in part by the Ministry of the Environment and the Great Lakes Guardian Communities Fund. To sign up contact the Township of McKellar Office for more details: 705-389-2842 ext. 25 edc@township.mckellar.on.ca Cost is Ten Dollars per participant.

Dreams do come true for the Festival of the Sound
Friday, July 20, 2012 - Friday, July 20, 2012

6:00 p.m. DREAMS DO COME TRUE. Mary Lou Fallis, soprano; Anagnoson & Kinton, piano duo. The opening of the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts in July of 2003 marked the end of 23 years of dreaming, hoping, planning, hard work and fund-raising while continuing to build a world-class summer music festival with a gymnasium at Parry Sound High School as its main performance venue. When Artistic Director James Campbell walked onstage on that first memorable night, the audience rose to its feet and erupted in cheers. When the ovation settled down, his first words were, “Well, dreams do come true.” Tonight we celebrate our tenth season in the wonderful hall built on those dreams with an evening of music, laughter, wine, good friends, good conversation and fine food. The evening begins with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, served in the atrium and enjoyed on the waterside deck if the weather is fine, followed by dinner in the Festival Performance Hall. Mary Lou Fallis, our host for the evening, is joined by duo-pianists Anagnoson and Kinton in music that will enhance every course.
